For almost a decade, the South Alabama Center for Fair Housing has brought together leaders to explore the intersections between housing justice, disaster recovery, community economic development and civic participation. For the last decade, the Southern Movement Assembly has been connecting communities across the 13 southern states through regional trainings and gatherings aimed at advancing the Southern Freedom Movement.
Together we are coordinating strategies to:
1) protect and defend our unique Southern communities,
2) build a new social economy rooted in liberation rather than extractive industries,
3) and to practice a true people’s democracy through broadened civic engagement rooted in #SouthernPeoples
Power.
This year, the Regional Leadership Summit and the SMA Organizing Intensive are bringing the best of these gatherings together to provide organizing training and leadership development.
