Southern Movement General Assembly Call
The Southern Movement Assembly holds monthly calls to gather our folks, stay updated with organizing on the ground across the region, and support each other to grow our forces within the Southern Freedom Movement of the 21st Century.
Southern Peoples Organizing Intensives!
Each year since 2015, the Southern Movement Assembly begins the summer with an Organizing Intensive.
The intensives offer skill-building, political education, and strategy planning on every frontline for justice. We build unity rather than division and learn organizing skills that lead to local and regional people’s power. Learn skills related to building community economic projects, starting Mutual Aid Liberation Centers, organizing Peoples Movement Assemblies, strengthening communication efforts, and facilitating education sessions in your community.
The intensives also offer opportunities for collective action planning across the summer and leading into the next SMA.
The 2017 Southern Peoples Organizing Intensive was a huge show of our collective power and a great kickoff to a summer of organizing!
Over 140 people participated for 3 days throughout the Intensive. Hosted by Women Watch Afrika, it was hosted in Clarkston, GA by the local community. We represented 11 states of the South and Puerto Rico, young people and elders, rural and urban realities, refugees, queer folks, and community members living on every frontline of struggle.
We participated in a full schedule of trainings, skills-building and relationship-building, community tours with Clarkston leaders, healing, eating delicious food, and sharing our diverse local realities to build a full map that reflects the Southern Freedom Movement in the 21st century.
