The Southern Movement Assembly and The National Council of Elders presents The Art of Strategy: Building Solidarity Across Generations! From June through September tune in for a monthly inter-generational dialogue series with movement leaders connecting our past to our present. During a time when we are under attack on multiple fronts, it is important that we act in solidarity and arm ourselves with sound political education and pragmatic strategies to advance us in the struggle for liberation!

This month's conversations features International human rights activist, warrior, defender, and advocate for justice, equity, and fairness - Glory Kilanko - has committed her life’s work to working for the rights of the oppressed, poor, and disfranchised majority. As Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Women Watch Afrika, Inc. (WWA), an Atlanta based international non-profit social justice organization, she works towards the elimination of all forms of discrimination and health disparity against women and girls and the acculturation of immigrants and refugees arriving to the U.S. from 23 African nations. Read more about her extraordinary story below.  This conversation will also be joined by Emery Wright, the Executive Director of Project South, who has worked globally for decades within Pan-African movement formations and Preye Cobham, Legal Director with Women Watch Afrika and a governance council representative with the Southern Movement Assembly.  Since age 13, Glory Kilanko has voiced her opinions and mobilized the masses to fight for fair distribution of resources, economic, political and social empowerment of females, fighting against military dictatorship in Nigeria, and works for the development of people of African descent. Prior to relocating permanently to the US, Ms. Kilanko annually came to the U.S. under the CLUW Convention to teach trade union women in 15 US States collective bargaining, global human rights, and the roles of women in nation building. She is an Ambassador for Peace, a Motivational Speaker, Transformative Trainer, Certified HIV/AIDS educator, Certified Healthy Marriage & Healthy Relationship Trainer, and Certified Heart Truth Champion. She has a Postgraduate Diploma in Comparative Labor Studies and Gender Relations from Warwick University, United Kingdom, and Diploma in Journalism from the London School of Journalism, along with various professional certificates. Ms. Kilanko is the immediate past Co-Chair of Live Healthy DeKalb Coalition, (a coalition of 176 organizations and individual working to make DeKalb resident live healthier and better lives); was President of the Women 4 Change Initiative in Diaspora, State of Georgia, and Board Member of WRFG 89.3FM Community Radio. She also served as the Stop Violence Against Women Coordinator for the State of Georgia Amnesty International, Member of the Georgia Coalition Against Family Violence and various coalitions for immigrant and refugee rights, housing justice, and public health. She has participated in 15 different United Nations conferences on the rights of women and the girl child, and was a consultant to the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) in the area of women’s right, violence against women and female genital mutilation. Ms. Kilanko has received several prestigious awards and recognitions, and continues to work towards reaching the goals of Women Watch Afrika, Inc.

Each month, special guest movement veterans from the National Council of Elders alongside younger generations of organizers and activists will share stories from their experiences on the frontlines. Together we will explore various periods of our movement highlighting the strategies and tools that have been used to overcome the opposition and how we can come together to WIN!
