We believe that fear, confusion, and isolation in times of crisis are countered with collective action to protect each other, share information, and connect across issues and geographies. At the Southern Movement Assembly Convergence 11 in Little Rock Arkansas back in September; organizers affirmed a strategy and short term plan to protect our communities and build infrastructure to defend our people from climate crisis, political violence, and state repression. As organizers on the ground in rural, Black, youth, Muslim, worker, trans and queer communities, we anticipate different levels of intimidation, misinformation, and crisis in the coming weeks. We have learned from 20 years of resistance after Katrina and the last 5 years of a global pandemic, how to support and care for ourselves.
In these tumultuous times of climate crisis and political violence, we know we have to gather, make plans, and engage our people to build power. No matter what happens in these elections, our movements need stronger infrastructure to support each other and protect our communities.
We invite you to GET READY and STAY READY for the long haul!
The Get Ready Task Force is a regional organizing drive to coordinate on-the-ground community organizing support, share skills, resources, and ideas for collective action across the South! We ask ourselves: If we were better organized, what would be possible? How are we preparing to protect our communities? What will happen across the South - before, during, and after the elections on November 5th?

SMA State of The South Calls advance the Southern Freedom Movement in the 21st Century. Rooted in the historic legacies of the South, organizers, participants of assemblies, formations, and groups come together on monthly calls to share what we are learning about the political moment. We work on tactics, shared strategies, and leadership development. We build transformative relationships through the centering of collective healing and joy, and we practice governance in real time through the carrying out of the SMA Multi Year Action Plan!
